Overview
Pantai Chalok is located in the Setiu district of Terengganu. Setiu is a district known for its coastal beauty, and Pantai Chalok is one of the more tranquil and lesser-known beaches in the area. Setiu is also known for its pristine natural landscapes, including beaches, wetlands, and marine life, making it a perfect spot for eco-tourism and relaxation.
Often overshadowed by the more famous islands like Perhentian and Redang, Pantai Chalok is a hidden beach on the mainland of Terengganu, attracting discerning visitors who seek tranquility, stunning views, and a more laid-back experience.
It is the most underrated, but yet a popular spot for introverts, or if you are seeking an off-grid adventure, away from the popular beaches in Terengganu such as Penarik Beach or Pantai Bari.

Size
The coastal stretch of Pantai Chalok in the Setiu district is approximately 4 to 5 kilometers long, it also stretches to the nearby Pantai Telaga Papan.
This quiet serene beach is home to less than 150 people, and the low population density offers a tranquil and relatively quiet environment with soft sand and calm clear blue waters, ideal for peaceful walks, relaxing, or enjoying the natural surroundings without the crowds found in more popular tourist spots.
Its moderate coastal size adds to the secluded charm, making it an attractive hidden beach spot for those looking for a more intimate beach experience in Terengganu.
Accessibility
The access to Chalok Beach (Pantai Chalok) is through the main road. If you are travelling on the main road to Penarik Beach from Kuala Lumpur, watch out for a signboard that says Bari Loft, and turn right into it.
The small road will lead you through an oil palm estate for a few hundred meters and you will eventually find the coastal road. The beach stretch is located along the small coastal road until you reach Bari Loft (which is not the dead end).
The coastal road passes through Bari Loft and head to Katsetiu Villas for at least for another 5km.
Parking
There are not dedicated car parks and you can park your car/van/vehicles anywhere on the beach for free.
Review
Our visit to Pantai Chalok on weekdays was greeted by the sound of waves, with no tourists on site. Staying few nights at Katsetiu Villa on the Chalok Beach is the best option to enjoy a memorable serene beach experience in Setiu Terengganu.
According to a local travel expert, Pantai Chalok reminds him of the Maldives as it’s sandy white beaches are often untouched, and home to the wild turtles to lay eggs during the peak season. The sand is soft, often like the ones in Redang Island, and you may witness traces of turtle footsteps in early morning at around 7am.
The sunset and sunrise here is spectacular too, and taking a morning bike ride or simply strolling the beach gives you a clear view of the Redang Island and Perhentian Island.
The best part of Pantai Chalok compared to Pantai Penarik is there are no food peddlers, restaurants, cafes that may pollute the environment or ambience. Unless you are staying in the chic-private homestay villa (eg: Katsetiu Villas) for a few nights, be prepared to bring your own food if you are exploring few hours at Pantai Chalok.
We found a WWF turtle hatchery in Pantai Chalok worth a visit too. The center was established in 2020 and since then, there are many turtle sightings on the 5-10km coastal area of Pantai Chalok and Pantai Bari, from April until Sept each season.
It is safe to swim at Chalok Beach (Pantai Chalok) unattended as long as you swim not too far from the shore. For experienced swimmers, it is definitely safe to swim at coastal area of Pantai Chalok, including Pantai Bari and all the way up north to Pantai Penarik. For surfers, you may enjoy the waves during monsoon season, as the waves could easily reach 5 feet to 7 feet high.
